The Blackberry Priv will be the first Blackberry with an Android operating system of choice, which will no doubt make many people interested in seeing if the smartphone device will be back in business. Because of that, many are wondering how they can obtain one.
The preorder at this moment is only available in Canada, the UK and the U.S. The device has a cost of $699 in the U.S., $899 in Canada as well as £499 in the UK.
The phone is not cheap, but despite the cost, the pricing remains on par with the majority of the flagship handset devices from the top market shareholders Apple and Samsung.
From what has been seen thus far from the new Blackberry Priv, it is a very good looking smartphone, and likely the first handset with Android in quite some time to come equipped with a keyboard.
The device packs a QHD AMOLED 5.43-inch display that has a 2,560×1,440 resolution. The screen is a 4.0 Corning Gorilla Glass protective coating so the display should not scratch easily.
There is also a Qualcomm Snapdragon hexa-core 808 processor that has RAM of 3GB and internal storage of 32GB. The camera on its backside is 18-megapixel and can take videos that are 4K. Parties interested should be extremely pleased to know it supports 2TB of external storage, which is something not many handsets do.
In the U.S., the handset can be acquired at the ShopBlackberry US for $699. For those that live in Canada ShopBlackberry Canada has the Priv for its price of $899. Rogers also has the Priv, but consumers will only be able to reserve it.
Those living in the UK can look at ShopBlackberry UK for the handset at £559 including VAT.
Carphone Warehouse in the UK is also selling the smartphone at the same price.
The handset overall could be the device that puts Blackberry back on the same page as the other top smartphone makers, but if it fails, the likelihood is the smartphone business of Blackberry will die with it as well.
