Sony Turns All Glasses Into Smart Ones

If you are not a really big fan of the Google Glass just yet, Sony looks forward to you considering its completely new detachable display and giving it a chance.

The tech giant and manufacturer based in Japan has just announced the prototype for a head mounted display, which can easily attach to any kind of eyewear, to display data and information on the small HD OLED display.

The device is more like Glass than the previous wearable by Sony, which was just a normal pair of glasses that were able to project graphics and green text onto the lenses.

Sony’s single lens display is an OLED display that is high resolution to be used for a number of different apps such as viewing the distance from where a golf ball is on the fairway to the hole.

The display is only 40 grams, has a small band that wraps around the user’s head and has electronics worn on one arm or the other. The board with the controls is located on the right and contains Wi-Fi modules, Bluetooth, a sensor hub as well as a processor.

The device also has a touch sensor, an accelerometer and an electronic compass used for selecting content for the display and manipulating it.

The 0.22” OLED micro display, which Sony insists could be the smallest one worldwide, has a 640 x 400 pixel resolution, which is a tad better than Google’s that is 640 x 360 pixels.

It extends off the board where a small optical unit is placed beside the right eye in order to reflect the displayed content.

A spokesperson from Sony headquarters in Tokyo said that what distinguished the device from others was the OLED high resolution display, which allows real high level imagery, and contrast so that the display can easily and clearly be viewed in both outdoor and indoor environments.

The board has many arithmetic capabilities for processing that are in par with phones.

The device will have 16GB of storage and could possibly be have capabilities of expansion in the future.

Sony did not release any information on availability and pricing.
