John Henson, the son of the famed creator of the Muppets Jim Henson, died on February 14. Henson was just 48 years of age when he died. His death was reported on the official Facebook page of the Jim Henson Company. The statement said that Henson had died of a heart attack.
Henson just like his father was a performer and puppeteer for the Muppets. He was most well known for the character from the ogre Sweetums during the later part of the 1980s until 2005. Sweetums appeared in the successful movie franchise of the Muppets.
In 1990, the whole world was saddened when Jim Henson, the famous father of John died suddenly. At the time of his death, the elder Henson was just 53. The Muppets creator died due to abscesses in his lungs.
John Henson was a shareholder and a board member of the Jim Henson Company. The statement that was posted on the company’s official Facebook page said that with great sadness this statement confirms that John Henson the son of the late Jim and Jane Henson and a brother to Heather, Brian, Cheryl and Lisa died of a massive heart attack at the age of 48 on Friday, February 14.
The statement said that Henson had been at home with a daughter when he was struck by the sudden heart attack.
The statement ended by saying Henson leaves Gyongyi his wife and two daughters Katrina who is 15 and Sydney who is 10. A private funeral service for the family has been planned.
The newest film featuring the Muppets – Muppets Most Wanted, will open at cinemas in North American on March 21.
Father Jim, besides The Muppets also launched shows such as Fraggle Rock and created characters that appeared on Sesame Street such as Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch and the Cookie Monster.
In April of last year, Jane Henson, John’s mother who met his father Jim at a puppetry class in 1954 at college died following a long courageous battle with cancer.
